I have been experiencing writer's block for a long time. What is your advice for overcoming such a castrating problem?

Any character walks into an office of another colleague and finds something astonishingly shocking left in the trash can. Try and make it very suspensful and writing about what it is that character found, maybe even make it a bit of a cliffhanger.
No matter what you write, there will be a part of you opening up to even more ideas and will give you some things to work with on other stories that you are having trouble with.

I swear, I've lost so many decent ideas just because I think I can remember things. I cans not. But, ahem, maybe you're different/more talented.
If all else fails, I make a story/concept about a good song, seeing as I already know I like the idea and the lines are already there. Maybe it's not 100% original, but it's nice fuel.
But, I don't know. I tend to only write little 8-pagers, or something along the lines of that, I'm terrible with character development.
