Tue Sep 16, 2008, 4:21 PM
I have been experiencing writer's block for a long time. What is your advice for overcoming such a castrating problem?

  • Mood: Tired
  • Listening to: Satrangi Re - Dil Se OST
  • Reading: The Key of Solomon The King
  • Watching: Cowboy Bebop
  • Playing: nothing, for some strange reason...
  • Eating: Carrots
  • Drinking: Pineapple Crush

I tend do go back to my inspiritors: Yoshitaka Amano, some people on devArt... Miyazaki. Then I'm like, RAWR D:< I wanna do THAT.

Also, just relaxing and sketching what you see can get the creative juices flowing.

Listen to a lot of music. I get inspired by lines, especially if I hear them wrong lol.

Start writing about somthing extremely random and no matter what happens, don't stop that pen from writing or your fingers pausing on the keyboard. I'll create a scenario:

Any character walks into an office of another colleague and finds something astonishingly shocking left in the trash can. Try and make it very suspensful and writing about what it is that character found, maybe even make it a bit of a cliffhanger.

No matter what you write, there will be a part of you opening up to even more ideas and will give you some things to work with on other stories that you are having trouble with.

I hope this helps :)

This probably isn't helpful at all, but simply try not thinking about it. Just go about your "daily" life, and when something pops,
BE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN.
I swear, I've lost so many decent ideas just because I think I can remember things. I cans not. But, ahem, maybe you're different/more talented.

If all else fails, I make a story/concept about a good song, seeing as I already know I like the idea and the lines are already there. Maybe it's not 100% original, but it's nice fuel.

But, I don't know. I tend to only write little 8-pagers, or something along the lines of that, I'm terrible with character development. ^^;

Good luck; writer's/art block sucks.

Perhaps I should take Mark Hammel's advice to DJ Yoda; "Force yourself".
